Make sure you’ve got all the ingredients measured and the oven preheated to 190°C (375°F).

In a microwave-safe dish about 23cm (9-inch) wide and broiler-friendly, combine the cream cheese and ranch seasoning. Heat on HIGH for 1 minute, stirring halfway so it softens up nicely.

After microwaving, stir in the chicken, sour cream, bacon, green onions, black pepper, and 1 cup of Cheddar cheese. Spread it out evenly and finish by sprinkling the remaining ¾ cup of Cheddar on top.

Pop it in the oven and bake until you see bubbles around the edges, about 25–30 minutes. Then switch to broil mode and heat until the cheese has a golden touch, which takes another 3–5 minutes.

Take it out of the oven, sprinkle more bacon and green onions on top, and serve while it’s warm with veggies, crackers, or crusty bread.
