01 -
Combine the yeast, sugar, and warm water in a small bowl. Stir gently and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until bubbles and foam appear on the surface. This shows the yeast is good to go!
02 -
In a big bowl (or using a stand mixer if it's handy), add the flour, salt, and softened butter. Pour in the bubbly yeast mixture. Mix on medium speed with the dough hook if you're using a mixer, or knead the mixture by hand until smooth and elastic, which should take about 8-10 minutes.
03 -
Coat a clean bowl with a little oil. Place the dough inside, turning it around so it's lightly covered in the oil. Cover it with a towel and leave it in a warm, quiet place for around an hour, until it doubles in size.
04 -
Once the dough has risen, press down on it to release the air. Divide into 12-14 equal portions. Roll each one into a rope shape around 6 to 7 inches long. Arrange them on a baking sheet that's greased or covered with parchment paper.
05 -
Cover the shaped breadsticks with a towel and let them rest for another 20-30 minutes until they 'puff up' once more. While waiting, preheat your oven to 400°F.
06 -
Place the breadsticks in your heated oven and bake them for 12-15 minutes. Keep checking on them—you want a nice golden-brown color but not too dark.
07 -
While the breadsticks bake, melt the butter and stir in garlic powder and salt. Once the breadsticks come out of the oven, brush the butter mixture generously all over them. Don’t hold back!
08 -
They taste the best when fresh out of the oven, while still soft and coated in warm garlic butter. Pair with a soup or a dipping sauce like marinara.
